About Us
Working to restore ecological balance across Arkansas through beaver conservation and coexistence.
Our Mission
The Arkansas Beaver Committee is dedicated to promoting the conservation of beavers and their habitats across the Natural State. We believe that beavers are essential partners in restoring healthy waterways, and that humans and beavers can successfully coexist with the right knowledge and tools.
Our work focuses on three key areas:
- 🎓Education
Helping Arkansans understand the ecological importance of beavers and the benefits they provide to our waterways and communities.
- 🤝Assistance
Providing technical support and resources to landowners, municipalities, and agencies dealing with beaver-related challenges.
- 📢Advocacy
Promoting policies and practices that support beaver conservation and coexistence across Arkansas.
Our Vision
We envision an Arkansas where beavers thrive in healthy, connected waterways—where their dam-building activities are recognized as valuable ecosystem services, and where communities embrace these remarkable animals as partners in creating resilient landscapes.
Why Arkansas?
Arkansas is blessed with abundant waterways—from the Buffalo National River to countless streams, creeks, and bayous across the state. These waterways have historically been shaped by beavers, and many could benefit tremendously from their return.
As our state faces increasing challenges from drought, flooding, and water quality issues, beavers offer a natural, cost-effective solution. Their ponds store water, filter pollutants, and create habitat—all for free.
Did You Know?
- Arkansas has over 9,700 miles of streams and rivers
- Beaver wetlands can store up to 1 million gallons of water per acre
- A single beaver family maintains 2-10 acres of wetland habitat
- Beaver ponds support 80% more wildlife species than streams without beavers
